MEDIA RELEASE Chamber Applauds Move to Reduce HST May 25th, 2011 - Victoria, BC – The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce applauds the announcement by BC Finance Minister Kevin Falcon that the HST will be reduced by two percentage points in two phases, and that the government will provide immediate support to BC families. “The Chamber supports the HST as sound economic policy while recognizing the challenges it presents for some sectors. We are pleased to see the government taking steps to mitigate the impact of the HST and stimulate economic growth,” said Bruce Carter, CEO of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce. “We are further encouraged by the BC government’s recognition that spending must continue to be controlled, along with their commitment to achieve balanced budgets in the near term.” The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce represents over 1,500 members and is the voice of business for the Greater Victoria region.
