Even with the recent blast of winter cold, our brave blossoms came peaking through to win the day,” said Victoria Mayor Dean Fortin. “Thanks to everyone who participated in the count again this year – it is a wonderful way to welcome in the Spring.” The classroom competition for a trip to Butchart Gardens was won by Mrs. Susan Holmes’ grade four class at Cordova Bay Elementary School who counted 30,425,335 blooms. The competition was open to grades four and five who practiced using their multiplication tables to participate. The Greater Victoria Flower Count is a light-hearted event meant to promote Victoria as an attractive shoulder-season holiday destination. Citizens across the municipality are invited to count their blossoms and report their count. The flower count is jointly presented by the regional chambers of commerce, Tourism Victoria, and The Butchart Gardens. -30- For more information contact: Shannon Renault, Manager Policy Development and Communications, Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce E: srenault@gvcc.org P: 250-383-7191 ext 208 Graham Bell, Public Relations, The Butchart Gardens P: 250-544-4479 Helen Welch, VP Visitor Services and Market Development, Tourism Victoria E: Helen.welch@tourismvictoria.com P: 250-414-6999
