Greater Victoria, February 15, 2017 – B.C. municipalities will recognize the work of its chambers and boards of trade during “Chamber Week”, February 20 to 24, 2017. “For over 150 years, the Greater Victoria Chamber has kept on top of issues affecting local businesses, working with all levels of with government to drive these insights into tangible action,” said Al Hasham, Chair of the Greater Victoria Chamber. “Whether acting as non-partisan advocates on hot-button topics or providing tailored resources to help our members reach that next level, we get business done.” For example, the Greater Victoria Chamber is presently leading BC Chamber of Commerce's effort to advocate for fair, transparent, and sustainable property taxes for businesses. The objective is to keep commercial property taxes reasonable, allowing businesses to keep costs down and compete with other jurisdictions. "The Greater Victoria Chamber is a bright light in the provincial chamber network," said Val Litwin, CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce. "Whether this regional chamber is speaking up on public investment in BC Ferry infrastructure or making the case for economic immigration, this chamber makes sure Greater Victoria's interests are heard." The Greater Victoria Chamber is hosting a number of events during Chamber Week, including a lunch with BC Finance Minister Mike de Jong and several professional development seminars on topics such as hiring best practices, how to measure your marketing success, and increase sales through storytelling. “As B.C. celebrates Chamber Week, don’t miss the opportunity to join in on our Chamber Week events,” said Catherine Holt, CEO of the Greater Victoria Chamber. “Help us celebrate the many ways that B.C.’s chambers strengthen our communities by getting business done.” The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce has over 1,400 business members and is the largest business association in the region.
