MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Island Natural Gas Rates to Match Province February 26, 2014 – Victoria, BC – Natural Gas Rates on Vancouver Island will be reduced to match the rest of the province. This will result in a significant decrease in costs for Island energy users and will level the playing field for the rest of the province. The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce was one of six interveners along with the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities advocating for fair natural-gas rates. “The Commission decision to support the proposal for common natural gas rates for the province is a significant win for the Island economy. Without this intervention rates would have increased further, instead we will see a 25 per cent rate reduction,” said Bruce Carter, CEO of The Chamber. “This will have a significant positive effect for Vancouver Island residential, industrial and municipal users.” The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce, with over 1,500 members, is the voice of business for the Greater Victoria region and has received Accreditation with Distinction from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. -30- For more information contact: Janet Crocker Policy and Communications Manager Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce Email: jcrocker@victoriachamber.ca Phone: (250) 360-3476 ( Bruce Carter CEO Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce Email:: bcarter@victoriachamber.ca Phone: (250)360-3470
