MEDIA RELEASE IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 20, 2011 Victoria Brings Home Policy Victory from National Chamber AGM Victoria, BC – The Canadian Chamber of Commerce (CCC) has supported the call of the Greater Victoria Chamber to enshrine the federal gas tax program in legislation. The policy highlights the need to secure the current federal gas tax program through legislation and provide a predictable long-term funding model for municipal infrastructure investment. The Chamber has called for a review of the program every four years in order to assess funding levels and the need to strengthen accountability and transparency measures in the selection and prioritization of infrastructure projects. “Ensuring that we have a predictable source of infrastructure funding is important to our economic prosperity,” says Bruce Carter, CEO of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce. “Infrastructure plays a critical role in our ability to grow and compete in the global marketplace.” Representatives from Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade representing business communities across Canada, convened in St. Johns, Newfoundland over the weekend to vote on policy resolutions submitted by members of the Canadian Chamber network. A two-thirds majority of voting members of the CCC is required for resolutions to pass. The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce has approximately 1,500 members and is the voice of business for the Greater Victoria region. The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce has received Accreditation with Distinction from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
