MEDIA RELEASE IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 6, 2010 Have Your Say on Municipal Taxes Victoria, BC — The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce invites input from business owners and residents of the Greater Victoria area to participate in a survey about municipal taxation. “Our members have noted that municipal taxes are a primary concern for their business, and we would like to know if that is reflective of the larger community,” says Bruce Carter, Chamber CEO. “We are inviting as many people as possible to participate in the survey – and enticing them with a chance to win an 8 gigabite iPod Touch!” The survey can be found on the Chamber’s website at www.victoriachamber.ca To further the scope of information on municipal taxation, the Chamber hopes to commission a study on the consumption of municipal services for business and residents in select municipalities. They plan to release the RFP in the coming days and have the study completed in the fall. “Our Board has asked us to focus on the issue of municipal taxation as a priority for our members,” continues Carter. “We feel it important to get a baseline of third party analysis of the tax environment in the region and get a better understanding of the fairness of the region’s municipal tax system. So we hope to complete a consumption study – and would love to do that in partnership with municipalities and other organizations.” The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce has approximately 1500 members and is the voice of business for the Greater Victoria region. The Greater Victoria Chamber has received Accreditation with Distinction from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. -30- For more information contact: Shannon Renault Bruce Carter Manager Policy Development & Communications Chief Executive Officer Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce Cell 250-812-0510 Email: bcarter@gvcc.org Email: srenault@gvcc.org
