What are you doing on Earth Day to make your business more aligned with positive outcomes for our planet?
Did you know? Since 1970, every April has been a call to action for our planet with Earth Day and Earth Month celebrations! Initiated as a "national teach-in on the environment," this movement has grown into a global campaign that not just raises awareness but urges us all, especially businesses, to take concrete steps towards sustainability. While Earth Day has historically been a powerhouse of environmental activism, sparking significant legislation and mobilizing millions, it's also been a stage for greenwashing. Yes, it’s tempting to make businesses appear greener than they are! But let's not settle for just good optics. 👉 This Earth Month, let's challenge ourselves and our organizations: Are we just adding to the noise, or are we making measurable changes? From conducting thorough environmental assessments to setting real, actionable goals, it's time to transform good intentions into impactful environmental strategies. What will your business genuinely contribute this Earth Month? Let's make our actions speak louder than our posts! #EarthDay2024 #Sustainability #SustainableBusiness #EnvironmentalImpact #SustainableStrategy #ESG

New #ImpactBrief is out! New reports, new strategies, and a boatload of news about business and sustainability. What did we miss?
After a bit of a hiatus we are back with the #ImpactBrief by Ideas for Impact Sustainability Agency. In this edition, we cover the big reports surfacing in the early days of 2024, the need to think about sustainability as a key strategy, and the most juicy sustainability news. Circle Economy Foundation released the annual Circularity Gap Report 2024> Circularity is gaining steam, even reaching megatrend status, but action is yet to follow while consumption is growing. For instance, although more people then ever know what circularity its, and even consider it a key strategy for a sustainable future, global circularity has decreased from 9.1% in 2018 to 7.2% in 2023, underscoring the severity of the circularity gap that we are living and contributing to. World Economic Forum released the Global Risk Report 2024 > No surprise extreme weather events and misinformation top the list for the next two years, while climate-related risks dominate the list in the long run. We especially appreciated the interconnectedness map and discussion in the report, as we know none of these risks exist in a vacuum. Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) released the New Biodiversity Standard > GRI released its much-anticipated biodiversity-focused GRI 101 Biodiversity standard after a year-long public comment period. The standard aligns with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework(GBF). #ImpactBrief #SustainableBusinessStrategies #BusinessforGood #Sustainability #ESG

Really great to see the official launch of the BC ESG Centre of Excellence to support the adoption of ESG but it's also significant step forward in building awareness and developing resources for the business community, with a special focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Understanding and integrating ESG factors are crucial for sustainable growth and long-term success for any business. I'm excited about the potential impact this center will have on promoting sustainable business practices across various industries and helping businesses of all sizes to navigate the complexities of ESG. It's a commendable initiative that signals a positive shift towards more responsible and impactful business operations. For anyone looking to deepen their understanding of ESG or seeking resources to integrate these principles into their business strategy, I highly recommend visiting https://www.esgbc.ca/.

🔄 "Built to last but with a lasting impact." That may well summarize the paradox of the viral Stanley Tumbler. This trend seems to have strayed far from the original sustainability vision that Stanley set out to champion since 1913. 🌱 Stanley has always committed to making products that replaced single use items. "The most sustainable products are the kind that never need to be thrown away or replaced. Stanley has created reusable, Built For Life™ products for over 100 years, reducing demand for disposable products that end up in waste and water streams." 📈 However, what happens when hyper-consumerism grips a product intended for sustainability? What role can companies play when the tides of consumer behaviour shift unexpectedly? The reality is that the viral interest in Stanley Cups skyrocketed their sales but also exposed the dark side to growth - overconsumption. “To avoid any negative environmental impact from your Stanley tumblers, you would have to keep reusing them for the rest of your life and then pass them on to your children.” ♻️ As the narrative of the Stanley Tumbler unfolds, it prompts us to reflect: How can we, as a collective society, align our consumption practices with the sustainability ethos that companies like Stanley strive to uphold? Is it enough to create sustainable products, or must we also cultivate a culture of sustainable consumption? Do you really need more than one Tumbler? #Sustainability #MindfulConsumption #Overconsumption #EnvironmentalImpact #EcoFriendly #ChangeMindsets #YourCompany
What will happen to Stanley cups when they aren't popular anymore? Landfill, of course | CBC News
