About us
The City of Victoria is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, one of 13 municipalities that make up Greater Victoria. The Capital City of British Columbia, Victoria is a community of choice for its temperate climate, natural beauty and recreation opportunities. Victoria is a small urban city, with a resident population of approximately 83,000. That figure swells to 200,000 each day as the region’s economic and employment hub. The region is known as a centre for technological innovation, and remains an international tourism destination. Other large industries include post-secondary education, marine use and government. Located in a sub-Mediterranean zone, Victoria enjoys the mildest climate in Canada. This, combined with spectacular outdoor setting adorned with ocean views and mountain vistas, encourage year round recreational opportunities including hiking, golfing, cycling, gardening and kayaking. Each day City employees work to provide the best services possible for our citizens. From the provision of clean water, garbage collection, and emergency services to recreation classes, transportation planning and land-use development, first-rate City services are the foundation for building a healthy, safe and sustainable community. Facing new challenges each day, the City of Victoria is evolving to find innovative ways of providing the highest level of service possible.

The Victoria-Saanich Citizens’ Assembly (VSCA) on Municipal Amalgamation is mailing out 10,000 invitations to randomly selected households in both municipalities in search of volunteers for the forthcoming Assembly. Any resident of Victoria or Saanich whose household receives an invitation and is 16 years of age or older is eligible to volunteer and serve on the Citizens’ Assembly. 48 respondents will be randomly selected by civic lottery in a way that broadly represents the diversity of each municipality. You’ll help shape the future of our great region and perform an important civic duty. As a member of the Assembly you will: ➡️ Learn about municipal affairs, governance and services ➡️ Share your perspectives on the issues and our region ➡️ Hear from a diverse group of experts in civic affairs ➡️ Deliberate on the pros and cons of amalgamation ➡️ Work towards consensus on key recommendations ➡️ Draft a report for both councils to consider The deadline to respond is May 16, 2024. Learn more about the Assembly at victoriasaanich.ca. MASS LBP is running the Victoria-Saanich Citizens’ Assembly at arms-length from both municipalities to safeguard the independence of the process.
