The HST: Engaging the Public
with the Honourable Kevin Falcon Minister of Finance and Deputy Premier, Province of British Columbia
Join the Honourable Kevin Falcon, Minister of Finance and Deputy Premier of the Province of British Columbia, in his first major address to the Victoria business community since being appointed finance minister. Falcon will share options for British Columbians in advance of the historic harmonized sales tax referendum in June.
Falcon will speak about the steps being taken by government to engage the public in a discussion about the HST: setting an earlier date for the referendum, appointing an independent panel to report on the HST and the previous PST/GST system, organizing tele-town halls led by members of cabinet, appointing a former ombudsman to oversee a funding program for the "yes" and "no" sides, and providing funding to universities, colleges and institutes to organize public forums on the HST.
