Carole Taylor was appointed Minister of Finance on June 16, 2005. She was elected in the riding of Vancouver-Langara in the 2005 provincial general election.
Carole served as Chair of CBC/Radio-Canada from 2001-2005. She is well-known for her media career which included hosting W5, Canada AM and Pacific Report.
Her business activities have included chairing the Vancouver Board of Trade, Vancouver Port Corporation, and Canada Ports Corporation. Her interest in good governance has led to her serving on the boards of HSBC Holdings ( London), Canfor and Fairmont Hotels, amongst others.
Carole served as an independent alderman on Vancouver City Council from 1986 to 1990. She chaired the Neighbourhood, Cultural and Community Services Committee, the Task Force on Children - resulting in a Children’s Advocate for the City - and the Greater Vancouver Regional District’s Hospital Committee.
As a community volunteer, she has chaired the Vancouver Public Library, served as a director on the boards of BC’s Children’s Hospital and BCIT, and worked closely with S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Carole also spearheaded the Spirit of Vancouver campaign resulting in her being presented with Tourism Vancouver’s Spirit of Vancouver Award.
Carole has a BA in English from the University of Toronto and honorary degrees from Simon Fraser University, British Columbia Open University, and BCIT. She is also an Officer of the Order of Canada.
Carole and husband Art Phillips live in Vancouver. She has two children, Christopher and Samantha.
