Event Description: The Maritime Museum of British Columbia will be hosting two special events at our new premises at 634 Humboldt Street in Nootka Court. Master Marine Artist John M. Horton CSMAFCA will be offering for sale a number of his original oil paintings over the summer of 2016 with partial proceeds to help fund the MMBC. Guests will have the opportunity to hear John speak about these extraordinary works and his fascination with Captain George Vancouver - on the tales of which voyages many of these magnificent paintings are based. Our Summer of Discovery will continue with a new exhibit featuring Captain James Cook and Captain George Vancouver and their voyages to chart the Northwest coast and find the Northwest Passage. The impact of these two extraordinary explorers on the future of the West Coast cannot be overstated. Today, Captain Vancouver is acknowledged by historians for his diplomacy and mediation skills and his exceptional charting of the coastline that secured the west coast territory of British Columbia for the British.
