Event Description: About the Event The purpose of the fair is to educate the immigrant community regarding health services and food nutrition in order to have healthy families. This is of great value as most of the attendees to this fair will be immigrants and newcomers from Syria. We are in addition expecting local community and mainstream Victorians also to participate and hope they will learn about some of the challenges faced by the immigrant community regarding health practices. In addition it will provide information to the mainstream communities about health practices of other cultures. We are expecting 2000 attendees throughout the event. It will provide them an opportunity to gather information from thirty local service agencies regarding important food and health supplies and services. Each agency will have their own table to present their services, demonstrate their products and/or distribute wares. - The Multicultural Food Fair will be offering: Health services education - diabetic clinic, diet education, dental hygiene etc. by providing 30 agencies a table to be able to educate the attendees regarding health services available in Victoria. Participants will range from organizations such as VIHA, BC Cancer Society, Aids Vancouver, and Dental Hygienists program from Camosun, Mental Health workers, Arthritis Society of BC and other such organizations Multicultural performances throughout the event Food sales (Food donated by restaurants) for raising funds to provide direct services for the newly arriving Syrian families. How to participate this event? As a participant you are required to organize a table with information regarding your organization and have it staffed from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm. There is a cost of $100.00 for participation as we have to meet our overhead expenses and will also help us raise funds for direct services to the newly arriving families. This event is also a venue for raising funds to provide direct services to the newly arriving members from Syria by incorporating this event with our 5th Annual Multicultural Food and Health Fair. This year is a special request – we are expecting 400 Syrian refugees to come to Victoria in the next year. - The services this funding will provide are: Settlement services, orientation to the city. Have a daycare for parents to be able to provide childcare when they are learning English or other attending orientation classes. These benefits the children as they are introduced to the English language and the parents are able to access services. Organizing target groups such as the sewing club, the knitting group, men’s group so these individuals have a chance to meet and interact with the mainstream community through participation. Benefits to your business will be recognition at the event by having an art work done by our youth group thanking you for helping this initiative. After the event this art work will be given to the sponsoring business recognizing your support. We will also be announcing all the sponsorships and include your business in our poster providing we receive your sponsorship by April 15, 2016 as we need to send the posters for printing and distribution one month prior to the event.
