Event Description:
For more information and to register, visit, http://www.eventbrite.ca/o/volunteer-victoria-1749897131 Developing Your Non-Profit Leadership Practice The non-profit sector needs great leadership. Our organizations and communities need leaders at every level, from volunteers to board members, from front-line staff to Executive Directors. Where do you exercise your leadership? The art of great leadership is to work in ways that bring out the best in everyone, and to model an alignment of actions with values. In the non-profit sector leaders have to do this with limited resources, while attending to diverse stakeholders, and often, while fulfilling multiple roles. Whether you are an emerging professional or an established leader, enhancing your leadership capacity and intentionally reflecting on your work within the non-profit sector will take you to the next level of leadership learning, development, and impact. Join us for Volunteer Victoria’s leadership course specializing in the non-profit sector, and held over four weeks of online learning, with one day in-person. This course provides you the essentials in effective non-profit leadership to create strong, healthy and agile non-profit organizations. You will: Develop tools for greater organizational effectiveness. Cultivate an acute understanding of non-profit management and systems. Fulfill assignments that are designed to provide you with hands-on learning opportunities. Explore your own context in the workplace. Access peer coaching and feedback on a weekly basis. By the end of the course you will have developed leadership practices that will enhance your impact in your organization and community. About the course flow: This course is offered in a blended learning model, consisting of one day in person and four weeks online. This delivery model will give you more flexibility to access the course on your own schedule - prioritizing it amongst your work and life commitments - while not giving up the important relationship-building and peer-sharing aspects that will make the course a success. On the first day of class (in person) and throughout the remaining four weeks (online), you will engage in active learning activities designed to connect you with other participants while focusing on real-world applicability. Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from Volunteer Victoria at the end of the course after successfully meeting the course participation and assignments criteria. Although effort per participant will vary, you should expect to spend approximately 5-7 hours a week on course activities throughout the online portion. Please note that attendance on the first day of class is mandatory. Learning Modules: Week 1: Sets the foundation for your leadership learning journey by exploring how you live your leadership in your particular context. You’ll explore vision and values, and reflect on your own leadership roadmap. Week 2: Examines the non-profit eco-system and illustrates the relationships among the organization's mission, governance, funding, and legal structures. Week 3: Focuses on building meaningful relationships, organizational development and team dynamics. In particular, you’ll learn tools for working through difficult conversations. Week 4: Covers how to communicate and champion the organization's vision while implementing strategic thinking, and explores tools that you can use to ensure more effective operations. You’ll finish up with creating your next steps in continued leadership learning. By connecting the course content to your day-to-day experience you will be engaged in a meaningful learning experience that will support your commitment to leadership development. Course Schedule: The course opens online on Monday January 26th, 2015 for a "Pre-Week", featuring activities to help you get oriented to the online course site, a benefit especially for those new to learning online or navigating technology - In-person session on Wednesday, January 28th, 2015. (Attendance is mandatory) - Four weeks of interactive online work starting Sunday, February 1st and finishing Saturday, February 28th, 2015. - Friday March 6, 2015.
