Event Description:
For more information and to register, visit, http://www.eventbrite.ca/o/volunteer-victoria-1749897131 Organizations of all sizes are joining the social media community - are you on board? Could you use a kick start aligning what you're already doing with a strategy to make it that much better? Interested in increasing your organization’s visibility, rallying supporters, and driving funding? With the right planning and strategy, social media tools can bring valuable supporter engagement to an organization. Social media allows us to engage directly with supporters, share stories, and drive visitors to our websites where the breadth and depth of an organization’s information resides. Through these tools we are able to share successes and generate conversations, helping non-profits meet some of their ultimate marketing goals. Join Nori Sinclair & Gwen Hill for this interactive session where participants will explore social media basics, and build a strategy to support implementation right away. Take a big picture look at the social media sphere, including learning the basics of the ‘big 2’ – Facebook and Twitter, and build a social media strategy tailored to your organization’s mandate, mission and capacity. Participants will walk away with: ? A first draft social media strategy that you can apply in support of your organization’s mandate ? The basics of popular social media tools ? A clear vision of how to align your social media strategy with your marketing plan ? An overview of fundraising through social media ? A list of tools (it’s not just Facebook and Twitter out there!) that will work for you and your organization Participants are welcome to bring their own laptops and tablets, though it isn't necessary. You are also welcome to bring along an existing marketing or communications strategy if you have one. About the Facilitators: Nori Sinclair, the electronic marketing coordinator for Camosun College, melds her expertise in communications, education and technology. Her workday includes everything from writing, web design and social media to project management and training. Prior to starting at Camosun in March 2013, she spent three years working with the environmental non-profit Sierra Club BC. In addition to holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications – Journalism from Mount Royal University in Calgary, Nori is often found polishing her skills at professional development opportunities around communications, web design and social media. Through Volunteer Victoria, Nori has previously facilitated a series of social media Q&A sessions, a Facebook Basics for Non-Profits and co-facilitated a Twitter Essentials for Non-Profits workshop. Gwen Hill has been passionate about social media since its inception. She was the media columnist for Volunteer Victoria for two years, and is currently the social media lead for the Learning Through Loss Society and the Research Department of Royal Roads University. As a writer and an avid personal user of social media, Gwen believes that there is no downside to sharing our stories and building our communities through online practice. As a social media consultant, she believes that there is always a way to make social media an enjoyable experience for each person. After all—if it doesn’t work for you, it won’t work for your organization! About the Venue: This workshop will be held at the Volunteer Victoria Learning Centre. Light snacks and beverages provided. Parking is most easily found at the City Parkades (Yates or View st), or at the Bay Centre parkade. First Hour Free vouchers are available if you choose to park in City Parkades.
