Event Description: Please join the Emerging Leaders Network to learn more from ED's about what makes it an inspiring and worthwhile role to take on. We have heard from many current and future leaders in Victoria that it's not always easy to envision being an Executive Director: considerations of work-life balance, remuneration, responsibility, HR management, and the wide variety of skills required come into play. So we've invited 5 EDs to come share their story. Why do they keep doing what they do? Join Gordon Harper (Umbrella Society), Leanne Kopp (Prostate Centre), Marion Little (PEERS), Jean McRae (Intercultural Association) and Lisa Mort-Putland (Volunteer Victoria) to hear from them. The session will begin with a one hour panel/q&a followed by small table rotations where you will have the opportunity to ask more questions of our guests in a smaller group format. About the Executive Directors: Gordon Harper is a social activist and an advocate for those who struggle with substance use issues. He is founder and Executive Director of the Umbrella Society for Addictions and Mental Health (explore the approach of this unique and innovative agency at www.umbrellasociety.ca), and has served on many regional committees and initiatives concerned with the interconnected issues of substance use, mental health, poverty and homelessness. Leanne Kopp is the Executive Director at the Prostate Centre Marion Little is the Executive Director at PEERS Jean McRae is the Executive Director at the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria Lisa Mort-Putland joined the Volunteer Victoria team as Executive Director in June 2011. Lisa holds a B.A. in Drama and a Masters in Public Administration with a focus on non-profit management. Prior to working with VV Lisa was the Development Manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria and spent more than 25 years working and volunteering in the museum and heritage sector. Lisa served on the 2011 Cabinet of the United Way of Greater Victoria and currently sits as Board Chair for Point Ellice House Preservation Society. About the Venue: This session will be held at James Bay New Horizons. Pay parking is available at the Menzies & Superior parking lot, and street parking is generally 90 minutes only. Side street parking for 2 hours is possible to find off of Menzies. Light snacks and beverages will be offered.
