Event Description:
Podcasting is an effective way to share audio with members of an organization or the public at large. Whether you want to provide an audio newsletter for your members or make discussions or talks available to a larger audience, podcasts are a great way to get the word out and share information. As long as you have access to a computer with internet, the ability to record, and editing software, you can have a podcast. This workshop will equip individuals and organizations to get started immediately. Participants will leave the workshop with an understanding of who should be podcasting when it is most effective and appropriate technical skills that include basic audio editing, recording uploading podcasts to a web platform CFUV will provide a handout with information on everything covered in the workshop as well as web addresses to the free software covered, help manuals for the software and the link to the online presentation. Facilitator bio: Liz McArthur is the News Director at CFUV 1010.9 FM in Victoria and has been a broadcaster in Victoria since 2007. She has previous experience working as a reporter/news anchor at CFAX 1070 and enjoys using audio to tell compelling stories about the Victoria community and further afield. CFUV 101.9 FM is Victoria’s Campus Community radio station, located at UVic. CFUV is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization. We offer an alternative to mainstream, commercial radio/media. Part of the station’s goal is to complement the programming of mainstream radio and national radio (CBC). CFUV provides a voice to the views of the community as well as groups under-represented in mainstream media, and music which is not played on mainstream stations. About the Venue: This workshop will be held at the Volunteer Victoria Learning Centre. Light snacks and beverages provided. Parking is most easily found at the City Parkades (Yates or View st), or at the Bay Centre parkade. First Hour Free vouchers are available if you choose to park in City Parkades.
