Event Description: Trying to facilitate a project with a diverse group of people? Want to help your group be more efficient and effective in planning and decision-making? Looking for ways to align diverse viewpoints, build positive energy and commitment within your team? Increasingly, many of us work with groups or teams to develop solutions and strategies for the issues and projects we are engaged with. Facilitating groups requires a unique set of skills to align diverse viewpoints, and come up with effective plans and decisions that people commit to, and feel energized by. This practical hands-on workshop will provide a solid introduction to group facilitation, and some key tools and techniques that can support groups to work towards their best results. Through participatory activities that draw on real-life experience, you will learn: Facilitation basics and the role of an effective group facilitator Practical tips for structuring and designing group meetings and processes that build engagement Common group dynamics, approaches to group problem-solving and dealing with conflict Tools to draw out group member’s best ideas, and support effective and creative planning and decision-making How to create conditions that foster group trust, collaboration and follow-through How and when to intervene when groups are stuck Who should attend: Leaders and managers responsible for facilitating group processes or programs involving multiple stakeholders Agency staff or group participants who want to contribute to their group’s effectiveness 3rd party facilitators wanting to build and enhance their skills About the facilitator: Stacy Barter is an organizational and sustainable community development facilitator who has worked for over 18 years with a wide range of communities, non-profits, and public sector organizations in Canada and Latin America. She currently works with BC Healthy Communities as a Community Engagement and Learning Specialist, bringing diverse groups together to develop strategies focusing on topics such as healthy community development, public engagement around climate change, and community resilience.
