Event Description: Course Description: Developed in collaboration with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) this course identifies the two basic hazards associated with energized electrical equipment: electric shock and arc flash. Participants will gain knowledge of electrical hazards, the safety regulations apply, and procedures on how to control the risk associated with these hazards. Methods to select appropriate personal protective equipment for shock and arc flash will be identified and practiced. Related safety topics covered will include lockout of electrical equipment and maintenance of personal protective equipment. Industry approved procedures and techniques will be presented and discussed. Course Agenda: • Electrical Hazards • Electrical Safety • Shock Hazard Analysis • Lockout • Arc Flash Hazards • Arc Flash Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) • Hazard / Risk Category Method of Selecting Arc Flash PPE • Care and Maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment Course Objectives: • Explain the effect of electric current on the human body • Identify the key elements of an electrical safety program • Identify the key objectives of job safety planning • Identify and apply hazard identification and risk assessment principles • Define “qualified worker” • Identify key electrical safety training requirements for qualified workers • Identify best practice Canadian Regulations that address electrical hazards • Identify when a shock hazard exists • Identify the components of a shock hazard analysis • Define the three CSA Z462 shock approach boundaries and describe their use • List the personal protective equipment required for shock protection • List the steps to achieve an electrically safe work condition • Explain what an arc flash is and list the injuries that can result • Identify when an arc flash hazard exists • Identify the components of an arc flash hazard analysis • Define the term “incident energy” • Identify the key electrical system variables that affect incident energy • Define the term “arc flash boundary” • Identify electrical hazard labelling requirements • Define the term “arc-rated” and explain the difference between “flame-resistant” clothing and “arc-rated” clothing • List the personal protective equipment required for arc flash hazards • Describe the Hazard/Risk Category method of selecting arc flash PPE • List the care and maintenance requirements for personal protective equipment For more information and registration please visit: https://www.imtarc.com/training-and-education/course/workplace-electrical-safety-arc-flash-shock-hazard-analysis-lockout-care-ma
