The BC Cancer Foundation has a simple and powerful mandate: to raise funds to support the investigative work at the BC Cancer Agency, advancing cancer research and care. Their vision: a cancer-free world.
Situated on the Royal Jubilee Campus, there are 340 staff members at the Agency, delivering care to 5,000 Vancouver Island residents annually (more than 80,000 patient visits). One-in-three people will experience cancer in their lifetime.
The Vancouver Island Centre of the BCCA provides oncology consultations, chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments for Vancouver Island residents. The radiation therapy delivered to patients employs the most advanced technology available - in the world.
BC lays claim to some of the best cancer outcomes in Canada, and in some cases around the globe. This outstanding survival data is a result of evidence-based treatment protocols, access by patients to research and clinical trials, and screening programs. Having research and care in close proximity allows patients to be among the first to benefit from protocol changes and clinical trials.
The Immunotherapy Research Program and The PREDICT (Personal Response Determinants in Cancer Therapy) are two examples of the world-class research that has enabled groundbreaking studies to occur, and the BC Cancer Foundation would like to share the details of this research with you.
Attend a Behind the Scenes Tour to see first-hand the outstanding patient and family support services available and then, don a lab coat and meet face to face with scientists who are advancing the research that may change cancer treatment protocols forever.
