Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre opened on March 26, 2005 with a maximum seating capacity of 7,000 for hockey games and 9,000 for concerts. The arena was developed and is operated by GSL Group (previously R.G. Properties), a Vancouver-based development and entertainment company with commercial and recreational facilities throughout BC and the current owner of Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League.

Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre replaced the Memorial Arena, also known as the “Barn on Blanshard” (rectangular with a curved roof, resembling a barn or aircraft hangar) which had been constructed in 1949.

The first concert to be held at Save-On-Foods-Memorial Centre was a Rod Stewart concert. Since then the arena has hosted various high-profile sporting and entertainment events including Aerosmith, Backstreet Boys, Bryan Adams, Black Eyed Peas, Prince, Cher, Michael Buble, Sir Elton John, Cirque du Soleil, Bill Clinton, World Juniors Hockey, Vancouver Canucks, WWE Wrestling and more.
