The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) is a provincial Crown corporation established in 1973 to provide universal auto insurance to B.C. motorists. We're also responsible for driver licensing, and vehicle licensing and registration services.
In setting premiums, ICBC does not discriminate on the basis of age, sex or marital status and discounts are provided based on the number of years that a driver has been claims free. We collect insurance premiums from more than 2.6 million motorists and invest these premiums to provide insurance benefits for customers and victims of crashes.
We work with communities and stakeholders to help them take responsibility for their road safety challenges. We also invest in loss-prevention initiatives and programs to reduce auto crime, crashes, injuries and deaths. Everyone benefits when the roads are safer.
