Oughtred Coffee & Tea is a family owned, B.C. business celebrating over 40 years of dedication to the specialty coffee industry. Our Founder's mission "to consistently exceed client expectations by sourcing the highest quality products, supported by comprehensive service, while conducting ourselves in a highly responsible manner" is what remains paramount to our continued success. Whether roasting some of the finest specialty graded coffees, distributing the world's most sought after beverage brands or educating our customers, we are committed to providing this set of value added services throughout the province.
“We’ve been enhancing our sustainable practices in everything from the sourcing and roasting of beans to delivering the final product,” said John Oughtred, owner, Oughtred Coffee & Tea. “This includes traveling to source coffee each year, meeting with farmers and millers to make sure their coffee is grown with social, economic and environmental considerations in mind.”
Oughtred roasts more than one million pounds of beans each year in their 12,000 square foot small-batch roasting and packaging facility on the Lower Mainland. In order to ensure the company operates in a sustainable manner they have implemented programs such as a waste management program which has resulted in 90 per cent of waste being diverted from the landfill. Their energy reduction program helps the company to recapture energy from the roasting plant to eliminate the need for electric heat.
Oughtred sources from local companies to support local economies and reduce their energy consumption. They currently use products and services from 75 Island-based companies and source their coffee bags and boxes from Vancouver. Oughtred has also reduced their transportation emissions with an updated fleet of Sprinter vans and by relying less on air travel, using video conferencing as an alternative.
