The Butchart Gardens is an internationally renowned 55-acre (22 hectare) display garden located near Victoria, British Columbia. Created in 1904 by Jennie Butchart, and still privately owned and operated by family descendants, The Gardens has been designated a National Historic Site of Canada. Open every day of the year, it welcomes over one million visitors annually.

A temperate climate allows for a variety of flowers, shrubs and trees not often seen in other parts of Canada. As such, visitors are treated to beauty in every season. In fact, 5 seasons are acknowledged throughout the year!

Spring bursts forth with unparalleled beauty as over 300 thousand bulbs of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and more, come into bloom. Flowering shrubs and trees are in abundance.

Summer follows with bright and bold colours of annuals, perennials and more than 250 varieties of roses. Evening entertainment, boat tours, Night Illumination and Saturday night Firework shows are staples of the summer season.

Autumn produces golds, yellows, and auburn shades, with the Japanese Garden as the true showstopper!

Christmas is a season unto itself. The Magic of Christmas highlights a large installation of the 12 Days of Christmas displayed throughout the grounds and an outdoor skating rink under a canopy of lights. Hundreds of thousands of lights transform the garden beds, trees and lawns into a magical Christmas experience.

Winter reveals the ‘bones’ of The Gardens and is the perfect time to appreciate the structure of each garden. Added to this, the Spring Prelude Indoor Garden provides a welcome escape on a winter’s day. The conservatory becomes a garden filled with colour and fragrance from flowering bulbs and shrubs, along with a Koi-filled pond, and resting areas throughout. The Historical Display, set up in the former residence of the Butchart family, chronicles a history of the early days when The Gardens began to take shape.

Year round, visitors can enjoy the Rose Carousel, Afternoon Tea served in The Dining Room Restaurant, a Coffee Shop and an extensive Seed and Gift Store.
