The Garth Homer Society works to create opportunities for independence, growth and participation in the community with people who strive to overcome developmental and physical obstacles.Working with families and friends, GHS creates a plan of activities that meets the individual needs of the client. The dozens of activities available can include supported employment, volunteering in the community, taking a yoga class or cooking and baking in the seniors’ program at the Garth Homer Centre.
GHS puts a strong emphasis on creating opportunities for the clients to use their skills and abilities in the community. That may mean working at Starbucks, cleaning stalls at Mary’s Farm & Sanctuary, recycling bottles to raise money for a village in Africa, or volunteering at a radio station. Clients are also engaged in a number of activities that benefit the community such as collecting donations for Christmas Hampers for less fortunate families.
