A professional advertising artist starting in 1977, since 1989 Peter has been a freelance painter in Victoria. His booth at Bastion Square (2000-2008) and now at the Inner Harbour has been very popular, and he's been a featured painter at the Moss St. Paint-In (2003 - 2005). This year Peter started teaching private and class sessions in gouache technique.

Peter James Robertson was born in Dundee, Scotland in 1955 and moved with his family to Saskatchewan at age 4. After high school he attended art college for two years in Edmonton to study advertising art. Peter's professional art career began in neon sign design, working in various corporate art departments throughout Western Canada. He began his freelance career in 1989 in Victoria.

Peter has developed strong, innovative techniques with gouache and airbrush that he first explored in architectural illustrations. In the 1990s, Peter painted commissioned portraits then began focusing on the painting of realistic landmark images such as The Empress Hotel, BC Superferries, The Union Club of BC (at the Millenium), the BC Legislature, and the Butchart Gardens (at their 100th anniversary). He also ventures into surrealistic images when the mood strikes, including black pen-and-ink collage-musings (the most popular of which so far has been a 1960s collage including John Lennon, JFK, and Jackie Kennedy Onassis). These images are available in artform and silkscreened t-shirts.
