Canem was founded in 1960 as an electrical contracting firm in Vancouver, British Columbia. Even in our earliest days, Canem was at the forefront of innovation as the first private company in Canada to have computerized estimating. The majority of our early work consisted of commercial and light industrial electrical installations. Since then, Canem has served as a partner in the development of many of Canada’s most prestigious and important building projects. With a current workforce of over 1,200 people, we have built up our electrical contracting capacity to support virtually any size or type of installation across Western Canada.

Now, with offices in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Vancouver Island, Canem continues to innovate through Building Performance solutions derived from years of experience. The Canem team’s highly skilled workforce with an entrepreneurial spirit and focus on quality project delivery through pre-planning, pre-fabrication, logistics, vendor management and project control tools has helped Canem to become a trusted industry partner. Staying true to our roots, the company retains the flexibility to competitively serve even the smallest clients with the same interests and efficiency as large projects.

With the rapid changes in technology and innovation sweeping through the building industry, there is a need to evolve current construction practices to create high-performance, sustainable buildings. In response to these industry drivers, Canem has expanded upon its traditional Electrical Contracting practice to also include services supporting Information Management, Building System Integration, Green Data Centres, Energy Management, Security & Risk Management, Lifecycle Services and National Rollouts. These new service offerings provide creative solutions to our clients’ most pressing problems, helping to manage risks, delivering operational efficiencies and ensuring capital cost containment.
